That next day none of us knew what to expect. At 0500 hours we walked into building C, which was about four hundred feet long and half as wide. A massive slot in the floor about twenty feet wide and almost as deep ran the length of the building and out onto the slipway. Two cranes also ran the length of the slot. Under the first crane was a stack of indigenous sequoia logs, at least fifty feet long and half as wide. In the back of the building at the beginning of the slot were about a half dozen workstations and a large meeting table.

West was at the meeting table, looking over a series of blueprints. As we gathered around the table, he began without bothering to look up at us. “On Earth in 1954, the original Khufu solar ship was discovered disassembled near the Great Pyramid of Giza. When archeologists reconstructed it, they learned the ship didn’t need nails or any kind of adhesive. It used ropes to bind the timber together so tightly that she became seaworthy. The ship was a barge that was one-hundred-and-forty-two feet long and nineteen feet wide. Twelve oars were used for propulsion, ten at the bow and two at the stern.” The Rock looked around the table. “We’re going to build a replica of this Egyptian barge using the Moser IV sequoia and their indigenous cutting and woodworking tools. The only modern addition will be a kinetic sail to assist with propulsion. We’ll be using my plan and work schedule.” West sat down and lit a cigar. “Let’s go over it. I want to be carving the hull before we break for lunch.”
